MEGAN "BIJOU" COATES
Megan Coates is a Costume Designer, Stylist, and Visual Artist with nearly two decades of experience creating character-driven costumes for film and television. Known for her thoughtful approach to visual storytelling, she collaborates closely with directors, producers, and performers to build wardrobes that reveal character, support narrative, and enrich a project's overall world.
Megan's career reflects a deep understanding of the filmmaking process, having progressed from Production Assistant to Costume Designer through nearly every level of the costume department. This hands-on experience has given her a unique perspective on both the creative and logistical demands of production, making her a collaborative and solutions-oriented department head.
Most recently, Megan served as Costume Designer on Ally Clark, directed by Phillip Noyce and starring Viola Davis, Jason Clarke, and Benjamin Bratt for Amazon Studios. Her previous work includes Apple TV+'s The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Dominique Fishback; Shirley, directed by John Ridley and starring Regina King; and Ma, directed by Tate Taylor and starring Octavia Spencer. Throughout her career, she has contributed to projects featuring some of the industry's most acclaimed artists while working across a wide range of genres and scales.
In 2016, Megan received a Creative Arts Emmy Award nomination for her work as Assistant Costume Designer on Roots. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Technical Theatre with a concentration in Costume Design from Emerson College and has worked on productions throughout Louisiana, California, Mississippi, North Carolina, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and Georgia.
Grounded in a strong understanding of color theory, design, and garment construction, Megan is particularly fascinated by the intersection of psychology and costume design. She believes clothing can communicate a character's inner life as powerfully as dialogue and is drawn to projects that challenge her creatively, foster meaningful collaboration, and leave a lasting impression on audiences.
